How to tell the difference between ants and termites!

If you see winged, ant like insects flying around your property, you need to know whether they are ants or subterranean termites. If they are swarming termites, an established colony of these house-damaging insects is looking for new nesting areas and your house is in danger. Ants have elbowed antennae, narrow waists, and their front wings are longer than their back wings. Termites on the other hand have straight antennae, thick waists, and both pairs of wings are the same size. See our termites page in the Types of Pests section for more details and an illustration of the difference.
