Pest Prevention Measures
Don't keep pet food outside on decks, etc. Keep some space between
shrubs and the house, at least 18 inches at all times. Do not allow tree
branches to touch the house or outbuildings. If you have pets that go in and
out, they may bring fleas in. Use Yellow bug lights outside. Keep gutters
unclogged. Attics and crawl spaces should be well ventilated. Excess
moisture and humidity should be eliminated. Because pests enter through
holes, cracks and crevices , these should be sealed up. Reduce piles of
stored items on the exterior as these can constitute harborage sites for
different pests. Do not allow mulch to make contact with wood on your house
such as with siding. Replace or remove any rotting landscape timbers. Check
all window screens for holes and make sure they fit tight to the frame.
Replace all rotting wood on your home. Carpenter ants are attracted to wet,
soft and rotting wood.
